4. Negro Lagoon

Negro Lagoon is a small lagoon surrounded by cryptomeria forests, with the imposing Santa Bárbara Mountain Range and Pico Gaspar as a backdrop. Beneath its waters lie the lava tubes of Gruta do Natal, remnants of the ancient eruptions that shaped this part of Terceira.

Negro Lagoon is located right in front of the entrance to Gruta do Natal and is also the starting point for the PRC01TER trail through the Mistérios Negros, one of the best-known hiking trails on Terceira Island — so it's not to be missed.

Given its proximity to Gruta do Natal, Algar do Carvão, and Furnas do Enxofre, Negro Lagoon is a must-see stop if you are exploring this interior area of Terceira.
