14. Alagoa Viewpoint

The Alagoa Viewpoint, also known as the Alagoa da Fajãzinha Viewpoint, is located on the northern coast of Terceira, in one of the most interesting natural areas on the island. From here you'll be able to see impressive volcanic cliffs formed by ancient lava flows that extend out into the Atlantic.

The contrast between the intense green of the vegetation and the black basalt meeting the sea creates a landscape that is very characteristic of northern Terceira. On one side you can see a small, completely wild pebble beach, giving an incredible sense of untouched nature.

This entire area is protected for its biodiversity, as it is home to a large part of the island's endemic vegetation and serves as habitat for various bird species.

This same stretch of coastline can be explored on foot via the official PR02TER Baías da Agualva trail, one of the best trails on Terceira and, without a doubt, one of our favorites for taking in the island's wildest coastal scenery. It is an out-and-back route, easy, with a total distance of 3.9 km, so it will take you about 2 hours to complete. If you enjoy hiking, we can assure you that this coastal trail will not disappoint.
