15. Escaleiras Swimming Area

If you're looking for a great spot to swim on the northern coast of Terceira, the Escaleiras Swimming Area is one of the best options, especially when the sea is calm. It is located next to a cliff and has a wide concrete platform where you can comfortably lay out your towel.

Access to the water is via metal stairs and there are several areas for swimming. You'll find a natural pool where you'll likely be able to touch the bottom, and other slightly deeper spots for swimming laps.

This swimming area is well set up and usually has lifeguard supervision during the summer season. There is also a parking lot nearby and a bar-restaurant next to it, perfect for grabbing something after your swim.

From up top you'll also have great views of the northern coastline. It is, without a doubt, one of the most complete swimming areas on this part of the island.
