12. Queijo Vaquinha
If you enjoy cheese and want to try local products from Terceira, Queijo Vaquinha is an almost unmissable stop. They work with milk from their own farm and make their cheeses by hand, something you can really taste in the flavor. For us, it's the ideal spot to sit back and pair the cheeses with a glass of wine.
A great way to start is by ordering a small board to sample several types of cheese. That way you can get a feel for which ones you like best and then order a larger board with just those, or take some home with you. The cheeses you'll try are the traditional, the Ilha Terceira, and the spicy variety. The last one is our favorite, with a mild kick of pepper that doesn't overpower the flavor of the cheese.
The place is spacious and welcoming, with a large terrace and indoor seating, making it perfect for both a quick visit and a long, leisurely meal. A simple, well-done spot that is very representative of the island.
