7. Serreta and Lagoinha
Serreta is one of the westernmost areas of Terceira and one of the best spots on the island to watch the sunset. Years ago, it was an area of vineyards and wineries, though today it is a small and peaceful parish.
In the Serreta area you'll find several interesting viewpoints, such as the Ponta do Queimado Viewpoint and the Serreta Lighthouse, both great options for watching the sunset with open views over the Atlantic. You also can't miss the Mata da Serreta Viewpoint, the Raminho Viewpoint, and the Serreta Viewpoint, which offer incredible panoramic views of the western coast and, on clear days, of other islands in the central group.
Very close to Serreta is Lagoinha, a small crater lagoon surrounded entirely by endemic vegetation — something uncommon in the Azores. It is a more isolated and far less visited spot than other points on the island, and we recommend stopping by when you pass through Serreta and its viewpoints.
If you feel like tackling one of the best trails on Terceira, the official PRC03TER – Lagoinha trail runs through this area — a circular route of 6.8 km, with 443 meters of elevation gain and an estimated duration of 2.5 to 3 hours. It is a great option if you feel like hiking, visiting Lagoinha, and exploring the Serreta viewpoints — the perfect plan for discovering the quietest and least touristy side of western Terceira.
