5. Whale and Dolphin Watching in Angra
Whale and dolphin watching is, without a doubt, one of the best experiences you can have in Terceira and the Azores. From the port of Angra do Heroísmo, you'll have the opportunity to see these animals up close in their natural habitat — from playful dolphins to pilot whales, and even the massive blue whales if you're lucky. We can assure you it's something you'll never forget.
The activity is carried out in a respectful and sustainable way toward the animals, which we consider essential. During about three hours sailing along the southern coast of Terceira, you'll be able to enjoy the views of the island and learn about cetaceans and their behavior. Thanks to the Azores' location between Europe and America, it is common to encounter different species depending on the time of year (we tell you all about it here).
There are two ways to do the whale watching: the classic tour, which focuses on observing the animals, and another option that adds a route near the Cabras Islets, ideal for also enjoying this natural wonder of Terceira from the sea. Either way, we recommend booking in advance to secure your spot and choose the option that appeals to you most.

And if you're looking for something more intense, there is also the option to swim with dolphins — a completely different experience from whale watching, so you can easily do both.
