4. Prainha Swimming Area
The Prainha Swimming Area, simply known as Prainha, is the only sandy beach in the bay of Angra do Heroísmo, right in the heart of the city. Due to its location next to the Marina, you'll find it very easy to locate and will surely want to spend some time here, alongside locals and tourists alike.
The sand is fine and dark, perfect for lying out, walking along the shoreline, or simply sitting down to enjoy the views. The water has a gentle seabed and calm waves, making it a safe beach, ideal for everyone and even for families with kids.
What we especially love is the combination of the calm water and the harbor scenery with the boats — a mix that is not very common and gives this spot its own unique character.
You can walk here from nearby hotels or from the marina, and you can also reach it via a staircase leading down from the seawall promenade. Once there, you'll find showers, foot wash stations, and some fixed umbrellas.
If you'd like to keep exploring other swimming spots in Angra afterward, you can also head over to Baía do Fanal, a more natural and open beach on a rocky coastline that is also worth a visit.
