2. Fajã do Fisher
Fajã do Fisher is a volcanic lava platform located on the southern coast of Terceira, approximately 3,000 years old. Over time, this natural space has become a swimming and leisure area that locals tend to frequent and is usually less crowded than other spots on the island.
Unlike other swimming areas on the island, there is no enclosed bay or natural protection from the waves here, as access to the sea is directly from the volcanic platform. Even so, improvements made in recent years have made access much easier, with sunbathing areas at different levels and a ramp leading down to one of the lower platforms, making it more accessible than it used to be.
Although many people come here for a swim, one of the biggest draws of the spot is the views. Right next to the sea access there is a small viewpoint from which you get a spectacular panoramic view of the Cabras Islets, especially on clear days.
In fact, it is one of the best spots to take in the islets from the mainland, though the Cruz do Canário Viewpoint and the Maria Augusta de Castro Viewpoint are also very close by, so we recommend visiting all these spots on the same day while exploring the southern coast of Terceira.
