13. Riviera Beach
Riviera Beach is a small beach that remains practically wild, with sand surrounded by rock and some reed beds where several migratory birds take shelter. As one of the few sandy beaches on Terceira, it tends to fill up on nice days, so we recommend arriving early to find parking without any hassle.
If the weather is not ideal for swimming or you feel like walking, you can follow a easy coastal trail that connects Praia da Vitória with Riviera Beach. The route is about 4.5 km round trip and usually takes between 1 and 1.5 hours. It is a simple way to explore the area and enjoy the coastal scenery without having to get in the water.
Riviera Beach is usually visited alongside other nearby swimming areas, such as Praia da Vitória, Salgueiros Beach, and Porto Martins, so you can plan a full day exploring several beaches in the southeast of Terceira.
