14. Praia da Vitória

Praia da Vitória is a city that stretches along the bay of the same name and is one of the main swimming destinations in the southeast of Terceira. Here you'll find sandy beaches and a beautiful seafront promenade, which makes this city one of the busiest on the island during the summer.

Its beaches include Praia Grande, the largest and most popular, with fine sand, calm waters, and good facilities; Prainha, more sheltered and ideal if you're looking for a quieter swim; and Praia dos Sargentos, perfect for enjoying the sea without the crowds. All of these beaches hold the Blue Flag certification, indicating a high standard of cleanliness, safety, and services.

If you want to take in all of this from above, you can't miss the Facho Viewpoint. You can drive up comfortably and park at the top, though you can also climb up on foot via a staircase from the harbor, with a total elevation gain of between 60 and 70 meters (195–230 feet).

By the way! If you're visiting Terceira in August, you can't miss the Praia da Vitória festivals. These festivities last about 10 days, with fireworks, street parades, concerts, and traditional processions full of energy and atmosphere — without a doubt one of the best festivals in the Azores and the most prominent on the island. In fact, almost the entire island gathers in this city during these summer nights.

And if you're exploring the area, you can also head to other nearby swimming spots, such as Salgueiros Beach, Porto Martins, and Riviera Beach, for a full day exploring several beaches in the southeast of Terceira.
